If you’ve been following me lately, you’ll know that I have started studying Creative Arts Therapy practitioner training - adding art to my wellness coaching has already been the most perfect combo for me not only professionally but personally too ☺️

Sydney is now in its second lockdown and with the situation looking a little precarious- I’ve decided to bring one of my goals forward and create The Okay Arts Crew - a place where you don’t need to be an ‘artist’ in order to create art that you’re proud of, that lets you express how you’re feeling that day, art with no judgement and no intention other than to encourage yourself to stay mindful in these lockdown days.

Over the last 2 weeks, I’ve made sure I’ve tapped into my creativity daily - from playing my ukulele, to watercoloring, to trying new recipes and putting pen to paper to just doodle.

Art has a way of calming out overacting brains - it can draw out stuff we didn’t know we were harboring and gives us some time to ourselves.

Whatever your medium, we can have a weekly theme or you can feel free to create what you wish, the aim to to support each other and give ourselves something to look forward to each week ♥️

I’m thinking I’ll open up a private Facebook group so we can connect more easily and also hold a weekly check in via Zoom. All free of course!

I am working through Module 2 of my creative arts

I am working through Module 2 of my creative arts therapy course and I’m LOVING IT 💁🏻‍♀️🤣🙌🏼 (I got a 98% for module 2!! ♥️)

One of the homework activities was to watch The Biology of Belief lecture by Bruce Lipton and OMG. I watched it twice - the first time I wasn’t expecting to get so much info (lol) so on the second watch, I got my sketch book out and took 6 pages of notes!

I’d recommend anyone who likes a little mix of science and self belief and habits and genetics and trauma/stress/life - to look for it on YouTube, watch all 2.5 hours and take notes too 🤓

I’ve got too many takeaways from the lecture but today I want to remember this one - we absorb the energy around us and we give out our energy to whoever is around us. We don’t exist solely inside our bodies, and our environment isn’t just what we see around us.

For me, this has been an interesting revelation - as someone who is so internal - to be reminded of how connected we are to others and how we can each influence each other’s wellbeing. It also makes me think of intuition and staying mindful and that our subconscious actions are the drivers of our experiences.

Ok! I’m geeking out 🤣🤣

I’m doing things a little differently lately - all of it has been away from social media but I wanted to share a bit of what has been helping me...

🍁 Setting 3 month habits & goals - especially when it comes to your health, 12 weeks is a great timeframe to commit to changing some habits and start to see some changes. Reviewing myself at the 3 month mark means I’m not worrying too much every week or month. I stick to my goals and review at the end of month 3.

For my next 3 months, I’m continuing my commitment to supporting my mind & body with a few small things. Supporting my liver health is important (I have #NAFLD), therefore supporting my hormones. Creating more calm and soothing my nervous system by taking magnesium, playing my ukulele and singing & dancing. Getting sun on my skin and moving my body most days of the week. I’ve loved going to acupuncture weekly for the last 3 months, but I need to move to fortnightly/monthly so I’m learning my important acupressure points.

I love autumn - so I’m kind of in my element and all set for the next 3 months ♥️🍁

I've been breaking down my own truths about having an anxiety disorder and having SO MANY thoughts is definately one of my challenges.⁠

When I'm going through an anxiety flare up (as I like to call it), suddenly I have a flood of thoughts and everything feels just as important as the other. Can you relate? ⁠

How do you overcome this tsunami of thoughts? ⁠
⁠
For me, it helps to first slow down - recognise that my anxiety likes to create stories for it to feed on - sort out which are rational thoughts and which seem a bit over protective right now. Staying mindful of what anxiety is for you, how it changes your thoughts is a powerful step in your education towards healing. ⁠

Most importantly, I've learnt that I don't need to fix anything right that second - that these feelings don't last and I need to let them pass. That it doesn't need any more of my energy, it just needed temporary space and it will simmer down on it's own. Sort of like a fart in the wind ... 🤣🤣 Yes, your anxious thoughts are farts in the wind that at first are unpleasant, but will stop stinking eventually! lol (Please let me know if you remember this analogy and it helps 🙃). ⁠

I've been chatting a bit about why Motivation isn't the key to achieving your goals - it was our monthly theme in my Patreon (which is having a bit of a sleep right now!) and it's still something that I'm very much passionate about teaching people the difference between Motivation & Habit. ⁠
⁠
To expect ourselves to always be in 'hustle' mode, or to be perfect from day 1 - isn't realistic and sets us up for failure, or the feeling of failure. ⁠
⁠
What works for me, is building good habits in relation to my goals, and being intentional with my choices each day. What am I doing to create the goal I want to achieve? Is what I'm about to do adding experience and value to where I want to be? How can I be intentional with this next choice that I make? ⁠
⁠
And along the way, you will definately find situations where you just don't want to push it right now - and that's okay. Growth is hard, it's a challenge and can feel really mentally and physically draining -- but that's when you know you're expanding - so don't be afraid of it the next time the choice comes up. ⁠

Rise to the occasion, give yourself grace when you need to, and be aware that no journey that's worth the climb, is easy. ⁠

Hands up if you never have a good selfie so you just go with whatever’s happening that minute? 🤣🙋🏻‍♀️

I wanted to jump on and say HELLO and thank you to everyone who has stuck around and who has just found me here 🙂

I posted on my Stories last week that I was taking a step back from a few things here at Make Sunshine so I can concentrate on my family and also my own health.

While I feel a pull in helping others, I can’t do it the way I want if I don’t walk my talk 💁🏻‍♀️ I wholeheartedly feel like everything I’ve learnt up to now has aligned with my real life - and it’s time to put it into practice. I’ve been deeply interested in neuroscience and have started to learn more about anxiety & the somatic nervous system. Im learning about women’s bodies & tapping into body wisdom and education. I’m still so passionate about helping mums learn about mindfulness & mindset. I have so much I want to learn and share - but for now, I need to scale back on something and being an Instagram expert is not one of those things 🤣

I’m not going anywhere - this is not an announcement, more of a ‘just in case you’re wondering why I don’t post as often’ kind of post 🤪 I love Stories so I’ll most likely be hanging out there. I’ll still add things to my Etsy store and I’m still thinking about what to do with my podcast.

I hope you are all doing ok so far in 2021, I am still scrolling through and following awesome people here so I can’t wait to see what you get up to xx
