Why Coloring Is One of My Go-To Coping Tools for Fatigue

Living with chronic fatigue (and the brain fog that comes with it) can make even the smallest tasks feel like climbing a mountain. There are days when I can’t do much—but I can grab a pencil and color in a sleepy little ghost.
Coloring has become one of my quiet coping tools. It’s low-energy, low-pressure, and still feels creative and rewarding.
Here’s how it helps:
- It gives me something “productive” to do that doesn’t drain me. There’s no pressure to finish a page—just showing up for a few minutes is enough.
- It distracts me from symptoms. Focusing on colors or lines helps me redirect my attention away from discomfort.
- It builds a sense of calm and control. I can’t always control how my body feels, but I can decide which shade of blue Ghostie’s blanket should be.
I created my coloring books—like Ghostie Takes A Nap and Ghostie’s Had Enough—because I wanted something cozy and relatable. These books are designed for those of us who are tired, overwhelmed, or just in need of a little break that feels good and not overwhelming.
If you live with chronic illness, you deserve rest. You deserve creative joy. And you deserve something that doesn’t ask too much of you.
Coloring might not fix everything—but it’s helped me feel a little more grounded, and that’s more than enough.
