Hands up if you never have a good selfie so you just go with whatever’s happening that minute? 🤣🙋🏻‍♀️

I wanted to jump on and say HELLO and thank you to everyone who has stuck around and who has just found me here 🙂

I posted on my Stories last week that I was taking a step back from a few things here at Make Sunshine so I can concentrate on my family and also my own health.

While I feel a pull in helping others, I can’t do it the way I want if I don’t walk my talk 💁🏻‍♀️ I wholeheartedly feel like everything I’ve learnt up to now has aligned with my real life - and it’s time to put it into practice. I’ve been deeply interested in neuroscience and have started to learn more about anxiety & the somatic nervous system. Im learning about women’s bodies & tapping into body wisdom and education. I’m still so passionate about helping mums learn about mindfulness & mindset. I have so much I want to learn and share - but for now, I need to scale back on something and being an Instagram expert is not one of those things 🤣

I’m not going anywhere - this is not an announcement, more of a ‘just in case you’re wondering why I don’t post as often’ kind of post 🤪 I love Stories so I’ll most likely be hanging out there. I’ll still add things to my Etsy store and I’m still thinking about what to do with my podcast.

I hope you are all doing ok so far in 2021, I am still scrolling through and following awesome people here so I can’t wait to see what you get up to xx

I wanted to create a simple worksheet to fill in and keep track of my gratitude for the whole year. We can use journalling to write more long form memories of the year, but this worksheet forces me (and you) to be concise and create keywords for each month. As the months go on, maybe we'll see a pattern of the things we value most? ⁠

As we wind down the summer holidays here in Austra

As we wind down the summer holidays here in Australia, I stumbled upon an article that basically laid it out straight like this -⁠

Showers and errands aren't self care. ⁠
Going to Kmart isn't self care. ⁠
Doing the groceries isn't self care. ⁠
⁠
I think it's easy for mums to think of these things as luxuries, things that we should enjoy because it's "me time" and we should be grateful to be out of the house. But when you really think about it, these things weren't designed to relax us, to calm us down. They're things we do in order to run our homes and lives - but they're not activities specific to our mental or physical health. Sure, it might contribute to it - without grocery shopping, we wouldn't have good food to eat. Without Kmart, I wouldn't be clothed (LOL). ⁠
⁠
But do I come home after masking up and trying to get everything done on my to-do list, relaxed and rejuvenated? Do I feel replenished? Is my head clearer and my body strong? Most likely not, right? ⁠
⁠
OK, I can see how a trip to Kmart can feel like a fun thing - but is it 100% self care? Not really, especially if it involves towing the kids around looking for school supplies and new underpants for everyone but yourself. ⁠
⁠
What is self care to you? What are you doing that is just for YOU? Not a side product of an errand you or someone else could of done. What is the 1 thing you can do, that is purely for your own self soothing? Where is your bliss? What makes you feel recharged and ready for the day? ⁠
⁠
Self care isn't selfish but if I need to say it here I will - go and be selfish for your own good today. Your mind & body will thank you for it later x⁠

IT HURTS MY BRAIN - I told my husband when he asked me how my drawing was going 🤣⁠⠀

This month in my Patreon, we're talking about doing things that we've always wanted to do - to try and stop categorising it as something that is 'too late to try' or you're 'not good at, so I'll stop trying' ... ⁠⠀

For me, drawing digitally was the thing I've always been interested in, but never explored past admiring others who do it. So when the opportunity rose, I was able to purchase an affordable drawing monitor and started drawing every day since Jan 1st ❤️⁠⠀
⁠⠀
I was never good at drawing or painting - but curiousity and creativity always gets me 😅 so it's been a challenging process to learn about drawing styles, how to draw faces and hands (ugh, handsss) and how to use colour. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
I'm happy to be at the very start, to know that this is not where I stop - that I'm still growing my skills and there's more to learn. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
If you could start something today or this week, even if you suck at it, but it's something that you're genuinely excited and curious about -- what would it be? ⁠⠀
